In this crime scene investigation course, students will learn how to properly discover, document, analyze, and interpret bloodstains on clothing and other fabrics. This course utilizes short, pointed lectures and numerous laboratory exercises designed to give students hands-on experience with bloodstain patterns.

This CSI Academy course is centered on the following subjects:

  • Photography and documentation of clothing, both in situ and on persons
  • Differences between man-made and natural fabrics and their interaction with blood
  • Macro photography of minute stains
  • Differentiation between stain patterns and the possible mechanical causation
  • Packaging and handling of bloodstained clothing
  • Interpretation of stains and cognitive/confirmation bias will be discussed
